Rix Wellmann

Throughout her life, Rix Wellmann has felt a profound connection between the images in her mind and the emotions they evoke. For her, perception extends beyond the visible into the emotional layers beneath everyday life. Her work seeks to capture the magical space between reality and feeling.

Art has always been her anchor and a language beyond words. From an early age, she recognised a heightened sensitivity to the energy of people, animals, and nature – both a gift and a challenge that shapes her creative practice. This awareness drives her to express the emotional essence of every subject she sculpts, paints, or draws.

Her work brings together human form and the movement of nature in pieces that are tender, sincere, sometimes humorous, yet quietly tenacious. She believes art is not a replica of life but a means to create moments of recognition and joy.

Although she works across various mediums, sculpture remains her first love. Through the immediacy of shaping material, she gives tangible form to intangible emotions. Her work invites viewers to pause, feel deeply, and rediscover beauty in life’s smallest moments.

Rix Wellmann is represented by The Artists Gallery in Cape Town.
